Two very significant remarks PM Narendra Modi made on Saturday the 30th of April 2022 during the inaugural session of joint conference of CMs and CJs.

During his first five year tenure as prime minister between 2014-2019 about 1800 obsolete and irrelevant laws were identified to be abolished.

The central government abolished 1450 while state government could delete only 75 of them till date.

By this, PM indicated that 275 useless and obsolete laws still needs to be removed by various state governments.

Apart from reminding this mathematics, the prime minister made a strong pitch for use of local languages in courts, contending that it will increase the confidence of common citizens in the justice system and they will feel more connected to it.

He also appealed to chief ministers and chief justices of high courts to give priority to cases related to undertrial prisoners languishing in jails and release them, as per law, based on human sensitivities, and asserted that judicial reform is not merely a policy matter.

“I would appeal to all CMs and CJs of high courts to give priority to these matters on the basis of humanitarian sensibility and the law,” he said.

This joint conference is being held a gap of six years.
