India’s latest stealth frigate INS Mahendragiri was launched into the Arabian Sea waters on Friday the 1st of September 2023.

As the tradition is, ships or for that matter any war ships are launched with a a touch of a lady-luck, Mahendragiri was formally floated into the sea waters by Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar.

There are now total of seven stealth frigates of is now known s Project 17A Class which was earlier known as Nilgiri Class frigates.

Four of these are made at Mazagon Docks in Munbai while other three were fabricated at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders in Kolkata.

The famed Brahmos Missiles will be fitted on the INS Mahendragiri. When launched these made-in-India missiles can hit their targets with lethal accuracy while travelling at Mach3 speed.

INS Mahendragiri will join its three sister ships at the Wet Basins of MDL, to progress remaining outfitting activities and equipment trials, in the run up to their delivery and commissioning.

Project 17A Frigates are the follow-on class of the Project 17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates, with improved stealth features, advanced weapons & sensors and platform management systems.
