There is good news regarding new Spanish built Airbus Defence and Space S.A transport plane C-295 that India has purchased.

Chief of Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhry is reported to be travelling to Spain in the coming week to personally receive the first of the new C-295 transport aircraft.

It may be recalled that in the month of September 2021, India had signed deal with Airbus to purchase 56 new C-295 short take-off-landing transport aircrafts to replace ageing Avro transport fleet.

According to the terms of the contract 16 of C-295s will be made in Airbus’s manufacturing facility in Seville while the remaining 40 will be created in Vadodara in Gujarat at a facility jointly held by Tata and Airbus.

A formal ceremony to induct the new transport aircraft is likely to be held at Hindan Air Base in the NCR later this month.

C-295 is considered to be a game changer transport aircraft ideally suited for the Indian conditions.

It can take-off and land on semi-prepared airstrips and can operate for farm lands or even from small stretches of national highways.
