Columns of Indian Army moved in Aid Of Civil Authority for helping the local population in Almora and Nainital.
According to Army spokesperson, the civil administration in Uttrakhand called-in the army as the situation became grave near Garampani/ Khairna areas due to incessant rains over the last two days.
The valley was affected and buildings were endangered due to excessive flow of the river. Military assistance was sought  to rescue stranded civilians, provide medical aid to the injured and restore food supplies.
A rescue team of 120 soldiers from Congo Brigade of Strike 1 started from Ranikhet and reached the affected site.
Khairna to Kainchi Dham route was the major choke point hindering the rescue and relief operations where approx 500 tourists were stranded in penny pockets.
Three teams of the rescue columns carried out rescue and relief operations and gave aid to the stranded people at Garampani and Khairna. Soldiers of Indian Army distributed packed food and eatables carried by them to tourists and 200 villagers at Khairna.
Medical unit was set up and people were given treatment after medical inspection by trained persons of Medical Reaction Team.
The tourists were rescued to a safer place throughout the night.
Food distribution point was also established at Khairna to prepare meals for all stranded people. Swift and quick reaction displayed by the Indian Army, was instrumental in saving lives of many tourists and locals.
