After allegations levelled by the US administration with regard to a plot to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the government of India has come with a strong reply.

Official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Arindam Bagchi summed-up in few words after giving a detail response – “it’s a matter of concern”.

Bagchi was addressing his weekly presser on Thursday. In a media question on latest charge by US Administration that Indian government is behind a plot to eliminate Punnun, the MEA spokesperson said : “As regards the case against an individual that has been filed in a US court, allegedly linking him to an Indian official, this is a matter of concern. We have said, and let me reiterate, that this is also contrary to Government policy.

He added saying “as we have informed earlier, during the course of discussions with the US on bilateral security cooperation, the US side shared some inputs pertaining to nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others.

“We take such inputs seriously, and a high-level Enquiry Committee has been constituted to look into all the relevant aspects of the matter and necessary follow-up action will be taken based on the findings of the Enquiry Committee. We cannot share any further information on such security matters.”.

On 29th November MEA had issued a statement with regard to formation of Enquiry Committee to look into charges levelled by US administration.

US has alleged that a government of India employee based in New York is plotting to kill Pannun

It may be recalled that Punnan’s organisation ‘Sikhs for Justice’ was banned under UAPA Act in June 2020 for aiding and abetting terrorism in India.
