Indonesian have a unique way to celebrate Hindu New Year.

On 11th of March 2024, later this month the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Indonesia’s resort island of Bali will be shutdown for one day on occasion of  Nyepi Day, or Bali’s Day of Silence

Beginning from 6 am local time this airport will be locked for 24 hours on 11th of March.

Various media reports are quoting one of the top ranking official of the Ngurah Rai Int Airport stating that “the airport will be closed, the lights will be turned off. On Sunday evening we will check all areas (of the airport).”.

Apart from the airport, other public facilities including ports and toll roads will not operate, except for hospitals and police stations.
The famous Bali Mandara Toll road will not reopen until Tuesday, March 12, except for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines.
According to the Balinese calendar, Nyepi Day is a holy day that ushers in the Hindu New Year.

The locals in the Bali island are mostly Hindu. Nyepi Day is a national holiday in Indonesia.
