US President Donald Trump has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘’great Prime Minister’’ with whom he will always be friends.

Prime Minister Modi said he deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates President Trump’s sentiments.

The to-and-fro comments between Modi and Trump appears after disagreement of views between two countries over India buying oil from Russia.

President Trump and his Trade Advisor Peter Navarro have accused India of fuelling Ukraine war by buying Russian oil.

Trump’s statement is significant as it comes soon after India warmed up with China and Russia with Prime Minister Modi attending the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at Tianjin in China on August 31-September 1. US had said India should be with the US and Ukraine and not with China and Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that he deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of India-US ties, an official spokesman said here.

The Prime Minister posted on X “Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership,”

Earlier President Trump said ‘’I will always be friends with Modi, he is a great Prime Minister. India and the United States have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about.”
