It was officially announced on Tuesday the 27th of May 2025 by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that a final go-ahead has been given by the government to roll-out India’s homemade first stealth fighter jet with industry participation.
The MoD release stated that the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme Execution Model will be developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) with private industry participation.
The Execution Model approach provides equal opportunities to both private and public sectors on competitive basis.
They can bid either independently or as joint venture or as consortia. The entity/bidder should be an Indian company compliant with the laws and regulations of the country.
ADA will shortly issue an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the AMCA Development Phase, the MoD statement added.
The fifth-generation stealth fighter jet programme is ‘must achieve’ step for India specially after China’s decision to supply 40 J-35 to Pakistan.
The Chinese made J-35 is an advance 5th Gen stealth fighter jet.
It may be recalled that India’s AMCA fifth gen fighter programme had already received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in March 2024 at an estimated cost of ₹15,000 Crore as a 25-tonne twin engine stealth aircraft.
