The tension ridden happenings in the South-China Sea along with constant news pouring-in with regard to China vs Taiwan, India has expressed concerned and called for status-quo in the region.

On Friday the 12th of August 2022, during the weekly briefing by Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry said India wants avoidance of any unilateral action to change the equilibrium in the region with regard to Taiwan and China.

This is perhaps of the first reaction by India on the on-going crisis between the two countries specially in wake of recent visit to Taiwan by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

She landed in Taiwan on 2nd August for an official visit and left the island nation the very next day.

The visit had provoked China. It conducted multiple military exercises dangerously close to the Taiwanese territory while many media outlets reported China simulating drills to invade Taiwan.

Arindam Bagchi said, “Like many other countries, India too is concerned at recent developments. We urge the exercise of restraint, avoidance of unilateral actions to change status quo, de-escalation of tensions and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.”
