Its been an unprecedented days of events in Sri Lanka where thousands of protesters still occupy official residences of president and prime minister, both of them have already stated that they wound resign by Wednesday next.

Meanwhile on Sunday the 10th of July, India issued a statement that it is keeping a close watch at the developments in Colombo as the island nation battles its worst ever economic crises till date.

Statement issued the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated quantum of financial aid extended to Sri Lanka this year has been $3.8 B and stands “with the Sri Lankan people as they have tried to overcome this difficult period”.

The full text of MEA statement issued in response to media queries on fast developing events in Sri Lanka is :

On Saturday the 9th of July thousands of protesters who had marched from all corners of Sri Lanka broke through the police barricades at the president’s palace of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and occupied it.

Rajapaksa has told the Speaker that he will resign on July 13.

Late on Sunday news came-in that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, operating from an undisclosed location apparently issued orders to distribute stocks of cooking gas  for fuel-starved country after a fresh supply of 3,700 metric tonnes of LP gas reached ports.

According to reports, a second ship carrying 3,740 metric tonnes of gas is due on July 11 and a third carrying 3,200 metric tonnes of gas will arrive on July 15.

A large gathering of protesters have however, continued to occupy the president and prime minister’s iconic administrative buildings which also function as their official residences, insisting that they will continue to do so till the time both the president and the prime minister resign and a new government is installed.
