The annual India-Japan Summit is turning out to be a fruitful affair this season.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Tokyo and his meeting with his counterpart Shigeru Ishiba has deepened bilateral ties.
While addressing a special media briefing in Tokyo on this Summit Meeting, , Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the two Prime Ministers announced the launch of a India-Japan AI Cooperation Initiative, which is aimed at deepening cooperation on artificial intelligence including Large Language Models (LLMs) and to foster an innovative and trusted AI ecosystem.
The India-Japan Digital Partnership 2.0, which will elevate cooperation to the next stage of the digital revolution.
As the outcome of PM Modi’s visit to Japan, a joint document was also signed to strengthen cooperation in digital public infrastructure, development of digital talent, and research in futuristic technological fields, including AI, IoT, and semiconductors.
Addressing a joint press briefing after talks with his Japanese counterpart, PM Modi said, “Cooperation in the area of High Technology is a priority for both of us.
In this context, Digital Partnership 2.0 and AI cooperation initiatives are being undertaken. Semiconductors and rare earth minerals shall remain at the top of our agendas.”
It was also decided that Japan to take 50,000 “skilled and semi-skilled personnel” from India in 5 years
Vikram Misri said “There is an Indian diaspora in Japan, but the mechanics of how to leverage this better have been a subject of discussion between both governments.”
Earlier in the day, while addressing a joint press briefing after bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, Modi said, “Under the action plan of human resource exchange, in the next 5 years, exchange of 5 lakh people in different sectors will be conducted…”
To recap – Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day official visit to Japan to take part in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. After this he will head to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin.
