India creates history – WINS Thomas Cup of Badminton for FIRST TIME

History was created on Sunday the 15^th of May 2022 when India won Thomas Cup for the very first time.

Victory was sweet specially after defeating 14 times champion Indonesia.

World championships silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth, who was in top form throughout the tournament, won the decider match by 21-15, 23-21 win over Jonatan Christie.

Then, the men’s doubles team won their match after defeating Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamlujo 18-21, 23-21, 21-19.

Before the finals the Indian team had defeated Malaysia 3-2 to reach their first Thomas Cup semi-final in 43 years on Thursday following 3-2 win over Denmark in the semifinal to secure the maiden Thomas Cup final.

It may be recalled that India have reached semifinals on only three occasions – 1952, 1955 and 1979. They were knocked out in the quarters of the last edition in 2020.
