A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal, India appointed its new envoy posted at Kathmandu on May the 17th,  2022.

He is Mr Naveen Srivastava, a veteran in the on-going border talks with China specially for Eastern Ladakh.

Nepal’s ambassadorship has suddenly become an important posting particularly with regard to border tension with China.

The current Foreign Secretary, Vinay Mohan Kwatra was India’s ambassador to Nepal before taking the top job in MEA.

Srivastava, a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS), is currently serving as additional secretary in the MEA.

“Naveen Srivastava, presently Additional Secretary in the ministry, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Nepal. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” the MEA press statement said.

Nepal’s boundary touches five Indian states namely Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. And this border is 1840 kms long.
