Rajapaksa government just got into a new trouble which many believe was coming sooner than later – a ‘no-confidence motion’ moved by  the opposition.

On Tuesday, the 4th of May, 2022 Sri Lanka’s opposition party Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) submitted two no-confidence motions against the Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa Gotabaya and his government.

The motions were handed over to the Speaker of Parliament, the Opposition party said. “SJB hands over two No Confidence Motions; against the President and the Government, to the Speaker of the Parliament,” the party said in a tweet.

Leader of the Opposition of Sri Lanka and SJB leader Sajith Premadasa also shared the tweet from his official handle.

Many news outlets in Sri Lanka were quoting SJB MP Mr. Lakshman Kiriella stating that both the motions were handed over to Speaker of the House MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

He also said that one motion was submitted against Gotabaya, while the other was against the government.
