On Sunday the 29th of June 2025, monsoon made a grand entry over the National Capital New Delhi.
The welcome step was that year it came nine days early in Delhi.
Also by Sunday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a press release stated that entire country is now covered with monsoon rains.
Usually the onset date is 8th of July when whole of India is covered under the rain bearing monsoon clouds.
IMD data states that since 2020, when monsoon hit Delhi by June 26, this is the earliest the monsoon has covered the entire country.
While monsoon usually makes its onset over Kerala by June 1 and covers the entire country by July 8, it starts the retreat from northwest India around September 17 and withdraws completely by October 15.
However, this year, the monsoon reached Kerala on May 24.
This is its earliest onset over the Indian mainland since 2009, when it had arrived on May 23, IMD has recorded.
