Tomorrow’s headline just appeared today on the afternoon of Friday the 8th of October 2021.

Tata wins Air India.

It was formally announced by the government that Air India has been sold to the Tata Group.

The decision was arrived at by the powerful four member committee known as AISAM, an acronym which stands for the ‘Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism’ consisting of union minsters Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Pyiush Goyal, and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The highest bid was submitted by M/s Talace Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of M/s Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd.

This four member AISAM group was specially created by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi within the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to speed-up the sale of Air India.

The other bidder who made to the final round along with Tata Group was the bid submitted by Spice Jet  founded by Ajay Singh.

Within minutes of the formal announcement, Ratan Tata tweeted a short message ending with emotional words – “Welcome back Air India”.

In 1953, J R D Tata’s Air India was acquired by Government of India.

‘JRD’,as JRD Tata was known as, continued AIR India’s chairman till 1977.
