Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold wide ranging discussions with his Japanese counterpart during his two day stay at Tokyo later this week.

The occasion is annual summit meeting of the two prime minister’s.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri while briefing beat reporters in the National Capital on Tuesday the 26th of August 2025 stated that both Prime Minster Modi and Shigeru Ishiba will review the global issues apart from exchanging notes on the bilateral matters.

Modi will be in Japan for two days from August 29th and thereafter he will go to China to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting.

It is Prime Minister Modi’s first Annual Summit with Prime Minister Ishiba, and it is also his first standalone visit to Japan in nearly seven years.

“This is also Prime Minister’s eighth visit to Japan since he took office in 2014, and reflects the very high priority that this particular relationship has in our foreign relations,” the Foreign Secretary said.

As scheduled earlier Modi, after his Japan’s Annual Summit Meeting will reach Tianjin the northern port city of China for the SCO meeting.

Almost 20 leaders from the Global South are expected to be at this year’s SCO’s meeting where Modi will be sharing the dais with Russin President Vladimir Putin.
