The week began on new note for the India-South Korean ties on Monday the 28th of July 20265 when Dr S Jaishankar today spoke to his South Korean counterpart the new foreign minister Cho Hyun, and discussed ways to strengthen India-South Korean relations.
Cho Hyun was appointed as the new Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea on 18th of July 2025.
In a social media post Dr Jaishankar said : ‘Good to speak with @FMChoHyun of RoK this morning.
“Conveyed my best wishes for a successful tenure. Discussed deepening of our bilateral cooperation.”
The South Korean FM said in a post on X that he had his first call with the Indian foreign minister.
“I reaffirmed our commitment expressed at the G7 Summit and during the special envoy’s visit. We agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and practical cooperation,” he posted.
It may be recalled that Cho Hyun previously served as the first Vice Foreign Minister under the then South Korean president Moon Jae-in and represented his country at the UN from 2019-2022.
The long distance phone conversation has come days after the visit by South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung’s delegation of special envoys to India, led by former prime minister Kim Boo-kyum.
