Days before the Kanker-Bastar region goes to polls, in a major success Border Security Force (BSF) along with the state police force achieved a major success in their anti-LWE (left wing extremists) operations.

When the last reports came-in on Tuesday the 16th of April 2024, 29 Maoists have been gunned down by security agencies.

The incident had taken place in the Kankar district in Chotebetiya AOR of the designated BSF battalion.

News agency ANI was quoting a BSF spokesperson, “Based on specific intelligence, a Joint Operation by teams of BSF (COB Chotebetiya) and DRG was launched on April 16… While the operation was still under progress, BSF Ops party came under fire from CPI Maoist cadres, and BSF troops effectively retaliated against them. One BSF personnel sustained bullet injury on his leg and is out of danger after being evacuated.”

“Operation is still in progress, and until now, bodies of 18 CPI Maoist cadres who have been neutralised… have been recovered from the place of occurrence,” the spokesperson said.

About 60,000 troops from central and state police constabularies have been deployed in the area for conduct of the smooth Lok Sabha polls.

Polling in the Kanker Lok Sabha constituency takes place in the second phase of election on 26th of April.
